Swinging for Older Couples

It is frequently thought that sex drives and base sexual desires decrease as you get older. This is more of a self-fulfilling prophecy rather than the actual truth. Older individuals can have a very vital sex drive that could even rival younger people due to being more established in other parts of their life and having more free time and disposable income on their hands. Keeping healthy and fit helps you age with grace and thus increase your sexual tastes later in life. Having a vivid sex life in general can even help with aging since good sex and regular orgasms combat the signs of aging. With people living longer and being healthier for a larger portion of their lives, the age of swingers can naturally increase as well. Over the past decade, more mature couples (those over 40) have joined the swinging lifestyle. In fact, they are the group with the biggest growth right now.

Many of these couples have been swinging for years since they were the young ones in the lifestyle. It was even reported that one of Britain’s oldest couples had been swinging since the 1970s when it was pretty much key parties and wife swapping nights. This particular couple has even enjoyed over 300 group parties! However, anyone in the lifestyle can tell you that there is a bit of a generational gap between the younger couples and the more mature couples.

Types of Swinging

Younger swingers are mostly new to the lifestyle and generally show their newness by participating in soft swinging—which means they either simply have foreplay with other couples or have sex while the other couples watches but never have intercourse with others. Couples who have been swinging for a while and tend to be more mature in age normally embrace open swinging. With age comes different attitudes and opinions toward sex in general and swinging as well. Also, mature couples who swing normally have total trust within their marriage.

Age and Experience

This trust, openness, and understanding leads to a more interactive swinging experience and full-blown immersion into the scene itself. Mature couples who began swinging early in their marriage know that the lifestyle is for enhancing their sex life through the meeting of others and trying new things. It is not about improving a poor sex life as a poor sex life will easily translate and transition into your swinging.

Parties Versus Clubs

Older swingers tend to be more comfortable at privately hosted swingers’ parties while younger couples often go straight to swingers’ clubs instead. This is based purely on comfort levels in general and the associated activities at each locale. It also speaks a lot of how others view older swingers. There are still plenty of mature swingers who attend clubs though. If you are a mature swinger, do not be afraid to check out the club scene for the first time or for your first time in years.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

STDs are a common concern for all swingers. However, those who have been swinging for a long time are more likely to have had a run-in with an STD—especially since condoms have not always been widely used. Swingers who are active in their 60s and 70s are at high risk for STDs and need to still be tested with regular frequency.

About andreamarc

Hi there. I'm Andrea Marc. My husband and I have been swinging for the past four years. It was definitely a learning experience at first, and I want to share the knowledge we acquired to help you make the decision to get into swinging or not in addition to all the extras involved if you decide that you do want to become a swinger. Swinging is a process, and you should not be afraid to back out if you find out that it is not for you.
